Handmade project - oven mitt

My Crate & Barrel oven mitten was falling apart, so I made a brand new one with a bright tomato red cotton canvas with polka dots.

I didn't have a pattern, so I just traced the rough outline of the old one, modified it a little bit (made it somewhat smaller),  and cut out (1) cotton canvas, (2) insul-bright (insulated lining), (3) cotton batting and (4) quilting-weight fabric for the trim and lining.

I quilted the four layers, sewed on the trim and a little loop made with 1/8" double-fold bias tape, and voilà - it was finished.

If you're going to make one for yourself, just remember that it's safer to use cotton batting and not polyester, because polyester can melt in very high temperatures.
